The short version

Stay on a VPS while the workload fits in a slice of a modern EPYC or Xeon host: web apps, a self-hosted VPN, a pruned Bitcoin or Monero node, CI, a game instance. Move to dedicated when you need a whole CPU, predictable NVMe queues, custom kernels, IPMI, or a box that is not co-tenanted. You can pay for either with Bitcoin, Monero, USDT and the other coins on checkout. The hardware class is a sizing choice, not a billing rail.

Four numbers that actually matter

Watch CPU steal, not marketing GHz. If steal sits above a few percent in steady state, you are paying for a neighbour. Watch RSS versus plan RAM; swapping on NVMe is still swapping. Watch disk write bandwidth for databases and chainstate. Watch whether you need IPMI, RAID level choice, or DPDK. Those four decide VPS versus metal. Coin choice (BTC vs XMR vs USDT) does not.

Price crossover

On NovaVPS, VPS tops out at $34.50/mo (12 vCPU / 32 GB shared). Dedicated starts at $89.50/mo for 8 cores / 32 GB exclusive. Metal costs more than the largest VPS; you pay for isolation, IPMI and RAID, not a cheaper GB of RAM. If you scale horizontally with many small boxes, VPS stays the right primitive. Annual crypto invoices take 20% off list on both lines.

When KVM is enough

Nested virt, Docker, custom ISO, raw sockets and full root are available on every VPS plan. You do not need dedicated to run Tor, WireGuard, or a mail stack. You need dedicated when the hypervisor is the bottleneck or when sole-tenant is the compliance story. Paying with Monero does not change that; it only changes who can read the payment graph.

How checkout differs

The flow is the same: pick plan and term, enter email, set a password, then create a live-rate crypto invoice on a separate page. VPS provisioning starts after the payment watcher marks the invoice paid. Monero invoices are reviewed manually and normally credited within two hours. Dedicated is 2-4 hours after payment because of racking and IPMI. Never reuse a previous invoice address.

Can I start VPS and upgrade later?

Yes. Live CPU/RAM resize on VPS; disk expansion reboots once. Dedicated is a new deploy: copy data, flip DNS.

Is dedicated faster to provision?

No. VPS is about a minute after payment confirms. Dedicated is 2-4 hours.

Can I pay a dedicated server with Monero?

Yes. Same coins as VPS: BTC, XMR, ETH, USDT ERC-20 and TRC-20, SOL, LTC, TRX.

Pay with Bitcoin, Monero or USDT

No KYC. Configure a VPS or dedicated server, set a password, then pay the crypto invoice.
